Amy Ahlstrom - Urban Quilter
June 8, 2015Amy Ahlstrom is an artist working in San Francisco who hand-sews quilts based on graffiti and other images she sees in the city - along city streets, in alley ways, and on the sides of buildings. She starts by taking hundreds of photos, and then samples them together on her computer to make the designs. She transfers the designs into hand-cut patterns and sews those elements into the quilt. She then draws with her sewing machine, making intricate patterns that are unique to each quilt.
